Halloween Events & Fall Festivals

Haunted houses, fall festivals and trick-or-treat plans around the River Valley.

Fall 2026River Valley and nearby

Fall around the River Valley does not happen in one place. One weekend is a downtown festival and a hay ride; the next is costumes, candy and a haunted trail after dark.

Use this Guide to figure out which fall and Halloween events are worth building a day around. It focuses on the bigger festivals, family Halloween nights, local haunts and a few trips worth the drive, with enough detail to help you choose.

Fall Festivals & Community Favorites

01

Downtown Fort Smith

Fort Smith Fall Festival

This is less one festival site than a downtown-wide fall day. More than 80 living-history reenactors are planned at the National Historic Site, along with infantry, cavalry and cannon demonstrations. Around downtown, participating museums and attractions add open houses, kids activities, vendors, food and free shuttle service.

At Pendergraft Park, the Kids Zone runs 10 a.m.–4 p.m. The Farmers Market starts earlier at 7 a.m. and adds its own fall-festival extras.

RAM’s free Fall Family Day runs 10 a.m.–3 p.m. at 1601 Rogers Ave. Crafts begin at 10:30, with hot dogs from 11 a.m.–1:30 p.m. while supplies last. The museum also has games and a free city trolley.

When

Saturday, Oct. 24

  • 10 a.m.–4 p.m.

Good to know

  • Wear shoes you are willing to walk in. The shuttle helps, but there is enough spread across downtown that this works better as a day out than a quick stop.

02

Bell Park

Greenwood Fall Festival

Greenwood keeps this one simple in the best way: arts and crafts vendors, food, inflatables, carnival-style games, face painting, hay rides, live entertainment and seasonal activities in Bell Park.

When

Saturday, Oct. 24

  • 10 a.m.–3 p.m.

Good fit for

  • younger kids, families who want everything in one park, and anyone who prefers a smaller community festival over a downtown-wide event.

Haunted & Spooky

01

Fort Smith Knights of Columbus property

River Valley Nightmare

River Valley Nightmare is the local outdoor haunt. The main attraction is a long wooded haunted trail at the Fort Smith Knights of Columbus property, backed up by live entertainment, food and drinks around the grounds.

The event is marketed for a broad audience, but do not read “family-friendly” as “not scary.” It is still a haunted attraction built around startles, actors and a dark outdoor trail. Use your own judgment with younger kids.

  • Gates 7 p.m. · Trail 8 p.m. · Closes 11 p.m.

Cost

  • $20 general admission

Good fit for

  • groups, teens, older kids who genuinely like scares, and anyone who prefers an outdoor haunt.

Good to know

  • The ticket booth closes at 10 p.m. The organizer says guests in line before the 11 p.m. closing time may still enter the attraction.

Worth the Drive

If you’re up for a longer drive, these are the Halloween destinations worth knowing about.

01

Muskogee, Oklahoma

Haunted Castle Halloween Festival: Muskogee

The Castle of Muskogee turns the property into a full Halloween village with multiple haunted attractions, food, shops and live entertainment. The draw here is range: you can make the trip with a family group and stick to lighter options, or build the night around the more intense haunts.

Family-side attractions include options such as the Haunted Hayride and other lower-scare experiences; the harder haunts go considerably further.

When

Fridays & Saturdays through Oct. 31

  • 5:30–11 p.m.

Why it is worth the drive

  • This is not one haunted house. It is an entire Halloween destination you can spend the evening exploring.

https://secure.interactiveticketing.com/1.44/5851c4/

02

Tulsa, Oklahoma

Tulsa Zoo HallowZOOeen

Tulsa Zoo goes intentionally “spooky, but not too scary.” Kids can hit Goblin Stops for treats, play carnival games, visit themed areas and take on the Haunted House, Haunted Train and Creepy Carousel.

Day sessions are 2–5 p.m. on Oct. 25 and 31 and include normal zoo access. Night sessions run 6–9 p.m. on Oct. 24, 25, 29 and 30, when the experience shifts toward after-dark Halloween atmosphere rather than animal viewing.

  • $14.99 members plus tax

03

Little Rock, Arkansas
